 About

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), also referred to as the Met Office, is an agency of the Ministry of Earth Sciences of the Government of India. It is the principal agency responsible for meteorological observations, weather forecasting and seismology. IMD is headquartered in New Delhi and operates hundreds of observation stations across India and Antarctica.

 

Overview

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) installs  USPL  Digital Signage system in IMD offices, to display weather Information for Yesterday , Today (LIVE weather updated after 3 hrs ) and Next two days forecast to facilitate J&K pilgrimage. Installed at  bus stands and airports in Jammu & Kashmir and New Delhi .Also installed at DC offices at Jammu & Srinagar , to add any message in case of any emergency /Disaster  .The system enhances e-government development and provides citizens with constant reliable information about the weather. It further reduces the operation and management costs, and builds a better image for the organization.

 

The Challenges

To display about 10 locations ,with 3 days data with better and more convenient information about the weather

To reduce the cables etc. using DATA cards only .As such that time 2G network that too it seldom works in remote area

To update the people with important announcements and safety measures at airports, bus stands and other public areas.

They wanted the weather to be shown in different locations in J&K and New Delhi which included many remote locations and control all the screens and content from Srinagar office and another at their head office in Delhi .

The weather information needed to be shown in regional languages for the convenience of the people and at the same time they wanted the communication to be hassle free and without much human intervention so that it does not put any extra pressure on their existing staff and does not demanding any extra resource.
